Book Review: The Pursuit of Tamsen Littlejohn

In an act of brave defiance, Tamsen Littlejohn escapes the life her harsh stepfather has forced upon her. Forsaking security and an arranged marriage, she enlists frontiersman Jesse Bird to guide her to the Watauga settlement in western North Carolina. But shedding her old life doesn’t come without cost. As the two cross a vast mountain wilderness, Tamsen faces hardships that test the limits of her faith and endurance.

Convinced that Tamsen has been kidnapped, wealthy suitor Ambrose Kincaid follows after her, in company with her equally determined stepfather. With trouble in pursuit, Tamsen and Jesse find themselves thrust into the conflict of a divided community of Overmountain settlers. The State of Franklin has been declared, but many remain loyal to North Carolina. With one life left behind and chaos on the horizon, Tamsen struggles to adapt to a life for which she was never prepared. But could this challenging frontier life be what her soul has longed for, what God has been leading her toward? As pursuit draws ever nearer, will her faith see her through the greatest danger of all—loving a man who has risked everything for her?

What I Liked:
  • The Author's style: She grabbed my attention continually
  • The plot line: I was always wondering what was going to happen next.
  • The continuation of the story: I liked that it continued after many points that it could of ended.  The author was able to wrap up every point of wonder and there were many surprises at the end of the book
What I didn't Like:
  • The Intimacy: There were many points that the author got into details that were inappropriate and unnecessary.  This would not be a book that I would recommend to others, especially younger girls, due solely to this point.
  • There were only a few points where I would be bored with the storyline and skip over the page.

A Hospital Visit

This afternoon in between church services we took a trip to the hospital to meet my nephew Kyle James Covey.  His parents went to the hospital yesterday morning, and he was born that afternoon at 35 weeks.  Being a little bit premature he had a few problems, but through out the night everything started balancing out.  There are still some respiratory issues, but he is doing very well.  He was born 5 lbs. 11 oz. and 17 1/2 inches long.  My tiny little guy!
Uncle Luke was the lucky first one to meet him!

I enjoyed my time cuddling with the guy and got a mixture of of pouty faces and smiles!

Kyle's big brother holding him.

He was so very tiny, especially compared to the big babies I've been around recently!

Uncle Hunter.  It was sweet to see my baby brother holding his nephew.  Kyle is my mom's first grandchild, our first nephew.

Saying goodbye to "baby dot" as they call him!

Great Peace

Discontentment. Fret. Anxiety. Impatience.
I struggle with those feelings as much as the next person. Seriously, who doesn't?
I've been going through a time lately when I've been very discontent. Everything was going wrong it seemed like.
The other day I was out on visitation with Mrs. Shuster (thank you, Lord, for that lady!) we were talking about a lady that has been coming to our church for the past month and just in the passing conversation she mentioned a verse. Immediately it struck a heart chord. I knew I'd have to look up that verse when I got home. It was just what I needed.
Well, the evening passed and I got home and forgot about the verse. Two days later I was reading in my Bible and God brought that verse back to me in my reading. I immediately wrote it down after that and have it hanging on the wall.
Isn't God wonderful the way he works like that!?  I'd like to share the verse with you as well, maybe it will bring encouragement to you today!
